Captain Martin Lategan
Martin regards himself as a hardworking, loyal and dedicated person. He is an eager and fast learner with a passion for service in a client-based environment. A quick problem solver and takes the initiative doing so. He is mechanically inclined and not afraid to take on new challenges in any aspects of life. He believes that respect and discipline are the foundations to a good career and life in general.
Martin is in his second season at VOYAGE charters. You will find that he is very much in tune with ocean ethos. Being surrounded by the sea all his life has electrified his zest for all things aquatic. Etched in favorite memoirs of his childhood is the time spent discovering interesting sea life in the many rock pools along the Coastline of Southern Africa. This wonderland of little marine creatures and their habitat certainly inspired his imagination and has encouraged Martin to continue his ocean pursuits to this day. This love of nature took Martin into exploring the beautiful, tropical Eastern Cape forests of Knysna where he discovered hidden fishing spots and enticing campsites. All of his adventures Martin loves to communicate to and share with his guests as well as stories of his encounters with the deep ocean such as shark diving in cages. He began what is now deemed to be his chosen career while still in high school. He competed in dinghy boat racing and went on to become an instructor. He also worked on both shark and scuba diving vessels, venturing finally into sailboat chartering which finally culminated in his attaining a Captains license. He also furthered his hospitality traits with the experience he gained when working on the magnificent wine farms of the Western Cape in South Africa. It was there that Martin conducted wine tasting tours in the famous Vineyard tasting rooms while increasing his knowledge of good wines with the hope to impress keen wine sommeliers. His initial career with VOYAGE charters was as a valuable Briefing Captain. In this position he was trained in VOYAGE boat maintenance, vessel checks and client liaison, definitely an additional benefit to making any charter a relaxing and enjoyable event. Being a great host, Martin will keep you well entertained with his friendly manner and bring a smile to your face with his constant pursuit of client satisfaction. You are ensured to learn as much about the navigational instruments of the boat as well as be intrigued by his many adventures and stories. His passion for rock climbing, cave exploring, island hiking, and good music will be extended to all on board, and for those who enjoy more chilled activities he will always be happy to find a secluded bay where you can relax under a palm tree or stroll down the beach. With his enthusiasm and energetic zest for fun and adventure, Martin is sure to make your dream charter a very memorable time.

Reviews
First Exumas Charter
The crew was wonderful. Captain Martin was really good with the boys. The chef was excellent and very kind to my kids. We were very happy with everything. We had a great time and the service was wonderful, although I don't think I'd choose to sail the Bahamas location again in the future. The islands are further apart, so you spend a lot more time motoring. The winds were low for most of our trip, which meant little sailing and also made it hot as hell. There aren't regular places to stop and grab ice or decide last minute to run ashore and grab a snack/drink. Plus we had a few days with no cell phone service. It wasn't that it was bad, we had a wonderful time, it's just that it would be better for motor yachting - not sailing.
